Swedish Prime Minister Goeran Persson will visit South Korea May 3-4 as a representative of the rotating chair-country of the European Union (EU), presidential spokesman Park Joon-Young said Thursday.

Ahead of the Seoul visit, Park said, the prime minister will visit Pyongyang May 2-3 for the first time as a Western head of state.

While staying in Seoul, he will hold a summit meeting with President Kim Dae-Jung and brief him on the results of his visit to Pyongyang. They are also expected to exchange opinions on major concerns such as the political situation on the Korean Peninsula and ways to boost cooperation between South Korea and the EU.
