Parents saving for kids¡¯ education

Posted February. 01, 2001 11:35,

Why do you save money?

The a nearly equal number of respondents said they wanted to buy a house as those who said they were preparing to fund their children¡¯s education.

Last year most people answered they were saving for the education of their children. It was the first time that the desire to own a home gave way to interest in educating children as the primary concern.

H&CB conducted a survey of 2,000 families in 13 cities for a month beginning Oct. 12, 2000. It found that 20.1 percent of the polled gave children's education as the top objective of savings. Only 19.5 percent said they put money into savings to buy a home.

The result might show a shift in thinking that does not preoccupy people with home ownership, in addition to a sharp rise in the number of families who have acquired their own homes.
