Two new deputy PMs appointed

President Kim Dae-Jung, in line with the revised government organization law, promoted Monday Finance-Economy Minster Jin Nyum as deputy prime minister for economics, and appointed Han Wan-Sang, president of Sangji University, as deputy-prime minister for education and human resources.

President Kim also appointed Rep. Han Myung-Sook of the ruling Millennium Democratic Party (MDP), as minister of women's affairs, which has been newly created in accordance with the revised law.

Presidential spokesman Park Joon-Young explained that Finance-Economy Minister Jin was promoted to the vice prime minister¡¯s rank, so that he could lay an economic foundation for completing the reform programs by the end of next month and consistently promote financial and corporate restructuring.

The spokesman noted that the appointment of Sangji University president Han as the education-human resources minister was taken on account of his reforming and creative ideas and has positive and enthusiastic leadership. The presidential choice of Han as the newly installed gender equality minister was in view of her position as a representative of female society and on the recommendation from the ruling MDP.
