Police armed with shields in Davos

The World Economic Forum, or Davos Conference, opened Thursday in the Alpine ski resort of Davos, Switzerland. Riot police, armed with shields, guard the Davos Congress Center, the site of the global meeting, against demonstrators protesting against globalization.
