Chavez withdraws as nominee for labor secretary

Amid criticism for allegedly employing an illegal immigrant as a housemaid, labor secretary-designate Linda Chavez asked president-elect George W. Bush to withdraw her nomination Tuesday.
In a press conference in Washington, Chavez declined to admit any wrongdoing but said the controversy was becoming too much of a distraction.
