Remains of F-5E found in East Sea

The Air Force announced Friday that it found remains presumed to be those of an F-5E fighter that crashed in the East Sea near Kangnung, Kangwon Province Nov. 1.

The wreckage was netted by a fishing boat at about 5 a.m. in the waters some 20 km off Samchok City, an Air Force spokesman said.

The Air Force took over the remains of the wrecked fighter from the maritime police at about 11 a.m. and is now conducting a precision investigation.

The recovered wreckage includes parts of a fuel tank, communication cables, part of the outer cover of the rear body of the jet and a front radio antenna, according to the spokesman.
