Men`s archery team wins gold; pushes Korea's ranking up to top 10

The ace archers of Korea hit the mark of an Olympic gold medal for the first time in 12 years. The trio of Oh Kyo-Moon, Kim Chung-Tae and Chang Yong-Ho prevailed over their Italian rivals by 8 points, 255-247, in the final playoff for men's team archery on Friday at the Sydney Olympics. They gave the Korean delegation its fourth gold medal.

Twelve years have passed since the Korean men's team garnered a gold in the Seoul Olympic Games of 1988. Koreans demonstrated their unmatched dominance of archery with both the men's and women's teams winning gold, thus taking three out of the four golds for archery in the games.

The four golds, together with five silvers and five bronzes, pushed Korea¡¯s national ranking up to the top 10. In women's basketball B-group preliminaries, Korea narrowly defeated Russia, the strongest contender, 75-73 in an upset match. The men¡¯s pair of Lee Hyung-Taik, who once advanced to the 16 top players in the U.S. open, and Yoon Yong-Il routed the Chilean duo of Nicolas Massu and Marcelo Rios 2-0 in the second round of men's doubles. The Korean women's volleyball team trounced Peru 3-1, registering 3 wins and 1 loss to qualify for the quarterfinals.
