The Government Administration and Local Autonomy Committee of the National Assembly held an informal meeting of its 13 members on Wednesday with Government Administration and Home Affairs Minister Choi In-Kee attending. The lawmakers grilled the minister mainly on government measures to compensate for damages to farmland and fruit orchards caused by the recent typhoon and the reconstruction of destroyed dams and bridges. Earlier in the day, Minister Choi met with Rep. Chung Moon-Hwa of the opposition Grand National Party. Chung briefed him on the factors that led to an incident in which a group of GNP lawmakers clashed violently with officials of the special presidential police squad when the lawmakers forced their way into an office in Sajik-dong. The two agreed to settle the case in a conciliatory manner.
