Kim Tae-Kue eliminated in boxing bout

Kim Tae-Kue of Taejun University who had been favored as the only gold medallist in boxing was eliminated in early matches from the tournament. He lost by judgement of 8-2 the first round of the Flyweight(51kg) match against Manuel Mantilla Rodriguez of Cuba who had carried the world championship last year. The match was held at Dalling Harbor Exhibition Hall in Sydney. Kim had won the top place at the 1999 Asian boxing championships. He put up a steady fight in the first round with an even score of 1-1, but began lagging behind Rodriguez in the second and third rounds. Two foul penalty points clamped upon him during the 4th round dealt a decisive blow to trounce Kim.
