On September 6, IOC chairman Juan Antonio Samaranch expressed a pessimistic view on the possibility of the joint entrance of North and South Korea at the Sydney Olympics.

Chairman Samaranch remarked that the possibility of a joint entrance seems remote as North Korea has given no reply to the proposal while South Korea has sent a letter of acceptance.

Samaranch added that he will continue to observe North Korea¡¯s position up to the day before the opening ceremony, but it appears at this time that the two Koreas will make separate entrances.
