On Friday, the Ministry of Defense officially announced that the U.S. Air Force`s low angle machine gun shooting training, as well as trench mortar and ground firearms training by the coastal border unit of the Korean military at the machine gun shooting range in Maehyang-ri, Kyonggi-do, will be completely stopped.

In the case of the Nong Island training field, the Ministry of Defense has decided to stop actual operation field airplane training and will use only practice bullets, which make less noise and have little danger of exploding. However, medium and high angle machine gun firing at the Nong Island machine gun firing range will continue. Also, the explosion processing of unexploded bullets will be confined to practice bullets through prior discussions with the residents. In addition, explosion processing of the Korean military`s unexploded bullets will not be conducted.

It was also decided that if dropping bombs is unavoidable in emergency situations such as airplane malfunctions, the dropping area will be moved 700m away to the western sea from the present sea between Nong Island and Kokdo.
