In case there is no quick resolution to the second strike by medical circles, the government is seriously studying hard line countermeasures such as the judiciary disposition of all strike organizers and the military conscription of interns after accepting their resignations.

A top government official said that the statement made by Prime Minister Lee Han-Dong August 13 was the government`s last appeal to medical circles and that preparations for the worst-case scenario will be made in case the doctor`s strike is prolonged.

The official said that the proposal presented by the government sufficiently answered the demands of medical circles, and that therefore no further compromises were on offer. He added that doctors should begin to attend to patients again soon.

However, the official added that there would be no change in the government`s policy of continuing dialogue with medical circles to the end.
