A statement by Minister of Culture and Tourism Park Jie-Won to adopt an official position on the line in a war against sensational sex and violence on TV drew a warning from the opposition Grand National Party`s chairman Lee Hoi-Chang.

"Such a statement easily could be misunderstood to mean that the ministry plans to become a despot over the broadcast stations," Lee said at a meeting of party executives. "It is not good to have the government too involved in the mass-media. The problems in the broadcast media should be resolved by the Korean Broadcasting Commission."
