Lee proposes S-N parliamentary talks

Lee Man-Sup, the National Assembly speaker, formally proposed to the North for an inter-Korean parliamentary talks on the 17th.

Speaker Lee suggested during a ceremony to celebrate the 52nd Constitution Day that it was time for the South`s lawmakers and the North`s policy-makers to come together as representatives for the future of the whole peninsula. Through such meeting of minds, he proposed that the leaders of both sides should not drag their feet but put an end to the bitter feeling and pain the people of two Koreas had to suffer for half a century.

The National Assembly speaker further detailed a plan for the creation of a "Special Committee for the Inter-Korean Relationship," as well as a "working-level preparatory committee" and a "special planning board."

For the special celebration, 500 persons attended including the Supreme Court`s High Justice Choi Jong-Young, the Constutional Law Judge Kim Yong-Joon, the President of Constituent Assembly Legislators Won Jang-Gil, the Chairman of the ruling Millenium Democrat Party Suh Young-Hoon, and the Vice-Chairman of the opposition Grand National Party Lee Boo-Young.
