Typhoon Kai Tak is approaching quickly toward the Korean Peninsular.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) forecast that the mid-sized Typhoon Kai Tak, which was rapidly moving 220km northeast from Shanghai as of 3 p.m. on July 10th, would reach the center of the nation around 9 p.m. on July 11th via the West Sea.
"Despite ever-weakening winds at its center gust with air pressure of 992 hectopascals, which portends its diminished influence, the typhoon is expected to unleash heavy rains throughout the country," said a KMA official, "Therefore, the nation will likely see the maximum 200mm of rainfall."
The expected rainfall from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. on July 11th is 60-to-150mm (over 200mm at the highest) in Chungchong, Honam and Cheju areas, and 60-100mm (over 150mm at highest) in other areas including Seoul and Kyonggi province. In particular, the KMA forecast heavy rains in mountains in Cheju.
