The Busan District Prosecutors’ Office, which is investigating lobbying suspicions concerning Kim Sang-jin (42, arrested), a construction businessman, in political and government circles, announced on September 14 that it will summon and investigate former presidential protocol secretary Jeong Yun-jae (44) next week.

Prosecutor Jeong Dong-min of the Busan District Prosecutors’ Office said, “Since former secretary Jeong sued three press companies for libel, we plan to summon him next week to investigate his credentials as an accuser.”

But an insider of the prosecution said, “In addition to the investigation of former secretary Jeong as an accuser, an investigation into suspicions regarding lobbying and accepting bribes may be carried out at the same time.”

The prosecution also analyzed information regarding former head of the Busan Tax Service Jeong Sang-gon (53, arrested and indicted) handed in by the National Tax Service from a computer it seized at former head officer Jeong’s house, and proceeded with another investigation into how the bribe money was used.

Prosecutors disclosed that they increased the number of those banned from departing the country to about 20, and that they are summoning and investigating executives and staffers of institutions related to the suspicions surrounding Kim, such as the Kibo Technology Fund.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that a close acquaintance of former secretary Jeong permitted the residents of Sasang-gu, Busan, where the former secretary was preparing to run for office, to take trips to Cheong Wa Dae over 4 or 5 times between February and June this year when he was in Cheong Wa Dae.

Regarding this, the Sasang-gu Election Commission said, “On August 13, we sent former secretary Jeong a formal letter to request cooperation for a clean election.”
