World Leaders Gather to Celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 89th Birthday

To mark the 89th birthday of former South African President Nelson Mandela, world leaders gathered in Johannesburg, South Africa on Wednesday. The former president who launched a think tank named “The Elders” said, “The elders who no longer need to concern about elections and electorates will shed light on dark places in the world.” At the celebration, rock musician Peter Gabriel (from left), Nobel Prize laureate Mohammad Yunus, former President of Ireland Mary Robinson, former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, Nelson Mandela, former President of the U.S. Jimmy Carter, and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu were in attendance.
