Japanese top government spokesperson, chief cabinet secretary Hiroyuki Hosoda said on October 16 that North Korea has almost finished developing plutonium based atomic bombs, which are similar to the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombs that the U.S. dropped on Japan during the Second World War.

It is the first time that a Japanese high official has clearly mentioned the state of North Korea’s nuclear weapons development. However, he did not give specific reasons for the announcement.

He insisted at a political rally in Simane prefecture that “North Korea has almost completed the development of plutonium based bombs. It has to abolish them right away.”
