U.S. Succeeds in Test Flight of Manned Private Spaceship Again

Pilot Mike Melville returned to earth on September 29 after accomplishing the test flight of the U.S. private spaceship “SpaceShipOne.” The flight was held to participate in the civilian space travel contest held by X Prize with $10 million as prize money. To win, the spaceship must finish two flights 100 km above the ground within two weeks with three people on board.
