[Editorial] Opening of Japanese Culture Should Abide by Principle

Ji Myung Gwan, chairman of Consultative Committee For Cultural Exchange Korea-Japan stated his intention of resigning, protesting against government`s non-principled opening to Japanese culture.

Though he withdrew his intention on the 18th due to Ministry of Culture and Tourism persuasion for staying in office, this issue is a warning to `overturn the principle`, which took place in connection with opening of Japanese culture.

Chairman Ji is also known as a scholar in subject of Japan.

The reason why he stated to resign from chairmanship started from `friends`, which is joint drama of Korea and Japan which MBC broadcasted last week.

He was furious since this drama contained Japanese words that were 30 percent of total speech, without dubbing.

The matter of distorted Japan`s textbook hasn`t been solved out yet, therefore fairness of broadcasting cann`t be ignored.

MBC is resisting saying, "it is no problem as it is Korea–Japan joint drama."

However people can`t tolerate Japanese words in home theater.

There were no sanctions amid two days of broadcasting

It means that Ministry of Culture (MOC) and committee of broadcasting also ignored this matter.

I am concerned that the principle of opening of Japanese culture might be lost.

Recently, MOC allowed Japanese songs, which Japanese singer sings to be broadcasted from 20th of this month till the end of July, greeting world cup.

Our government announced once that they would quit opening of Japanese culture when the matter of Japan`s textbook arose in last July.

After only seven months, our government allowed Japanese songs, which is `the final card` for opening of Japanese culture.

They go to extremes.

World cup game has nothing to do with opening of Japanese culture.

Related authorities should punish broadcasting officials and investigate entirely so that the principle of opening Japanese culture can be abided by step by step.
