Chinese President Xi Jinping proclaimed to build a community of common destiny in Asia on Saturday and stressed Chinas leading role in future development of the Asian region.
During the opening speech at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2015, which is called as the World Economic Forum of Asia, Xi urged Asian countries to pioneer new future by advancing toward a community of common destiny. This speech revealed Xis confidence in diplomacy. Just over two years into his term, Xi has been continuously making achievements in areas such as anti-corruption efforts in China.
The Chinese president also suggested detailed strategies to build a China-led community in Asia. Under the proposal, China takes initiative to build a community of common destiny on closer ties with the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN), before the ASEAN, China, Japan and South Korea form an East Asian community of destiny by 2020.
Xi once again stressed China`s One Belt, One Road initiative, which he offered in 2013, and the China-dominated Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as important tools for the regional collaboration. The Chinese government also released more concrete action plans for the initiative in line with Xis speech.
The Chinese president emphasized on the "Asian way" by saying that many Asian countries have discovered their own growth route when it comes to building a "community of common destiny." Xis remarks are interpreted as an attempt to rule out interference of external powers such as the U.S. It is also translated as China`s diplomatic strategy through military strategies to refuse access of the U.S. Navy to the Asian region through build-up of naval power.
As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of the World Anti-Fascist War, it is an important year to be commemorated as well as a historic juncture to reflect on the past, Xi said, aiming at Japan that has never reflected on its history of aggression.
