Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik on Wednesday ordered the Cabinet to "stop the spread" of xenophobia in Korean society, calling it a social pathological phenomenon.
Chairing a government committee meeting on policies for multicultural families, he said, Negative perceptions of and discrimination against multicultural families and foreigners hinder social diversity and integration. He also called racism a social pathological phenomenon that should not take root in Korea.
In the age of globalization, multiculturalism is not a choice but a must, he said, ordering the Cabinet to take measures to prevent xenophobia or negative perceptions about foreigners from becoming deeper or spreading.
