Police in Gyeonggi Province yesterday said they will summon three or four people who attended a drinking party this week in connection with last months suicide of actress Jang Ja-yeon.
Lee Myeoung-gyun, head of the violent crime section at the Gyeonggi Provincial Policy Agency, said, We will summon and investigate people beginning with those suspected of specific wrongdoings this week.
He declined to disclose the dates of the summons.
Of the four or five people confirmed to have received sex or other entertainment from Jang, police plan to summon three or four suspected of crimes such as use of force and visit and question others who simply attended drinking parties as witnesses.
The head of an online media will likely be the first person summoned. Police are discussing whether to disclose the summons schedule to the media and where to hold questioning.
The probe is stepping up efforts to arrest the head of Jangs former talent agency Kim, 41, who reportedly holds the key to solving the case. He is known to have fled to Japan.
Police requested an arrest warrant and criminal repatriation for Kim and the tracing of his mobile phone use through overseas roaming service, but made little progress. If people who were entertained by Jang are charged with use of force, Kims testimony is required.
Police requested Interpol Japan to search for Kim March 18, but that could prove ineffective unless Kim tries to leave Japan. Most countries control movement of wanted figures only at airports.
