Korea’s political parties appeared to welcome the launch of an investigation into the litigation battles between the two rival Grand National Party primary runners, former Seoul Mayor Lee Myung-bak and former party Chairwoman Park Geun-hye yesterday. However, they also expressed concerns over the possibility of political exploitation.

Lee’s camp, which filed a lawsuit against Park’s close aides, said that it expects the investigation to prove the suspicions that Park’s camp raised to be groundless. A spokesperson for Lee also said that the camp would take immediate action if the prosecution intentionally attempts to bring down presidential hopefuls of opposition parties during their investigation.

“We expect prosecutors to carry out a thorough and fair investigation without being swayed by political considerations,” said Rep. Park Hyung-joon, the spokesman of Lee’s camp.

Meanwhile, an official of Park’s camp said that although it is not what they wished for, it now hopes that the truth will be revealed by the prosecution’s investigation.

“It’s good to know that prosecutors have launched their probe without delay. We hope prosecutors will be fair and accurate in uncovering the truth,” said Rep. Lee Hye-hoon, the spokeswoman of Park’s camp.
