Korea’s first Aegis destroyer (KDX-III) was launched at a dockyard of Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. in the southeastern port city of Ulsan on Friday. “Today is a landmark day; our Navy has a world-class warship,” said President Roh during the launching ceremony. The nation became the fifth country in the world to possess the ship following the U.S., Japan, Spain, and Norway. The destroyer, named King Sejong, is equipped with a high-tech radar system that is capable of tracking 900 enemy planes 1000 kilometers away simultaneously, 128 ship-to-air missiles with a range of 150 kilometers, and five-inch ship-to-ship missiles.
