Gospel Landmark Burns Down
The Pilgrim Baptist Church in Chicago, a gospel music landmark, was destroyed by a fire on January 6. Constructed in 1890-91 by the father of modern American architecture, Louis Sullivan, the church was selected as one of Chicagos historic monuments in 1981.
The picture shows the school attached to the church, and fire leaping into the cross-shaped windows.
