Viking Festival

Fire festival is the core of the “Up Helly Aa festival” held in Scotland`s Shetland. The festival is an annual event commemorating the Viking’s first arrival in Shetland 1,200 years ago, and is held on the last Tuesday of every January. As the festival starts, people dressed as Vikings march on a street while carrying torches. The annual Up Helly Aa festival reaches its climax with the burning of a Viking galley on Shetland.
