"Budget for the Internet Security Should Be Increased"

Samsung Economic Research Institute (SERI) announced on the 5th that the government should build a nation-level crisis countermeasure to prevent the Internet crisis.

SERI insisted in its report titled “Weakness of the Internet power and its countermeasures” that it is time to build a comprehensive countermeasures considering the Internet being a critical device for government, industry and everyday life. SERI also proposed to shift from centralized network which depends on a few large hubs to decentralized network which has several hubs.

It also pointed out the need to establish proper law system to punish cyber criminals and compensate victims. According to the report, the governmental budget for the Internet security system building (less than 50 billion won annually) is only 0.5% of total IT investment, which is far behind other OECD members` 5~8%.
