President Kim Dae Jung handed over to North Korean leader Kim Jung Il, at the summit held in June of 2000, a memorandum outlining our official position on the issue of weapons of mass destruction, said the Blue House on Oct. 224th.

According to a Blue House official, President Kim explained such to the five presidential candidates invited to the Blue House on Oct. 23rd, and said to the extend that North Korea`s weapons of mass destruction and the threats therefrom should be disposed of by all means.

President Kim reportedly told the candidates, "At the summit, I told North Korean leader Kim Jung Il that North`s weapons of mass destruction should be disposed of. I also outlined my oral demand in a memorandum and delivered it to him."

But no official confirmed whether or not the memorandum mentioned North Korea`s efforts to develop nuclear weapons with enriched uranium.

Oct. 23rd, President`s Chief of Staff, Park Ji-won in his testimony before a congressional committee said, "At the June 15th summit, we demanded that North`s nuclear weapons should be eliminated, and submitted a memo containing our demand. Also, Lim Dong-won, who visited North Korea in April as a special presidential envoy, also discussed the nuclear weapons issue with North."
