Powell Asked the UN to Postpone the Weapons Inspection

Since the first draft of the strict Resolution against Iraq by America and the UK is not clear to be accepted by the UN, there arise a chance for America to take a step back and accept the ‘second solution’ proposed by France.

While the UN and Iraq are negotiating the weapons inspection in Vienna, the US Secretary of State Collin Powell asked the UN Weapons Inspectors to postpone the inspection until the UN Security Council finished examine the new Iraq Resolution.

▽Chance for America accept the second solution=The AFP reported on the 30th of last month that America and the UK would submit the first draft of the Iraq Resolution by the 2nd. However, the AFP quoted the American officials and reported that there was a dominant vision that this resolution, which warned Iraq for military actions if she did not accept the Resolution by the 7th, would not pass the UN easily. The AFP reported that, therefore, there was a chance for America to accept the second solution proposed by the French President Jacque Sirak. The second solution is to ask Iraq to accept the UN Weapons Inspectors first and to adopt the second resolution if Iraq refused.

▽Suggestion of change of German situation=The House Diplomatic Policy Spokesperson of the German party in power Social Democratic Party (SPD) said during an interview with the SWR radio on the 30th of last month, “Germany might think about supporting the UN Resolution that forces the weapons inspection against Iraq if there is a clear evidence.” The Chairman of the House Diplomatic Policy Committee Hans Ulrich Klose also said, “If there is a new evidence that Iraq is cooperating with international terrorist organizations, Germany might take different position.” The German Prime Minister Gerhardt Schroder persisted in his strict position to object the war against Iraq regardless of the UN Resolution, so he has been feuding with America.

▽Movement of the Middle East=The Egyptian President Hosni Muvarak met the Syrian President Bashar Alassad in Cairo on the 30th of last month and stressed while discussing to start the UN inspection as soon as possible and to object military actions, “There is a need to strengthen the public opinion of the international society to object the war against Iraq.”

The Kuwait Press reported that the Jordanian King Abdullah II also met with the King of Kuwait Alamad Alssaba, with whom the relationship was worsen because of supporting Iraq during the Gulf War in 1991, and discussed ways to improve the relationship between them.
