At least 30 people were killed or injured in a traffic accident on the Gyeongbu Expressway Saturday afternoon.

The accident, involving an express bus and an oil tank lorry, occurred around 3:30 p.m. on the southbound lanes of the Seoul-Busan Expressway in Okcheon, North Chungchong Province.

Survivors taken to nearby hospitals said that the northbound oil truck swerved off the wet slippery road into the opposite lane and collided head on with the bus.

The police are still investigating into the exact cause of the accident.

The 10 km section between Okcheon and Jeungyak Tunnel on the northbound lanes and another 10 km section between Okcheon and Geumgok on the southbound lanes of the Seoul-Busan Expressway were heavily congested for over 5 hours in the aftermath of the accident.
