Not only agricultural products containing bio-engineered ingredients, but also genetically modified marine products are required to carry a GMO (genetically-modified organism) label. Those who violate the regulation will be subject to a fine of up to 10 million won.

The government reviewed and approved `enforcement ordinance on marine product quality control` at the cabinet meeting at Cheong Wa Dae presided by President Kim Dae-Jung yesterday.

The enforcement ordinance can restrict breeding of marine products in areas polluted by sunken or stranded vessels, waste disposal facilities, and poor sanitation.

The cabinet meeting also approved `enforcement ordinance on toll road`. According to the enforcement ordinance, toll road fees will be remitted for army, police and traffic control vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, and veterans in grades one through five. Toll road fees will be reduced by 50 percent for mini cars with engine capacity of 800cc or less, disabled people, patients who suffer from aftereffects of defoliant, and veterans in grades six through seven. However, if people take advantage of driving toll roads without payment, they will have to pay five times the toll as a penalty.
