Returning to the ice after a record-setting day Saturday, speed skater Lee Kyu-Hyuk of Korea University chalked up two new Korean records in the 500- and 1,000-meter events Sunday at the speed skating World Cup in Calgary, Canada.

Shadowed by teammate Choi Jae-Bong of Dankook University, Lee set the new Korean standard in the 500-meter event with a time of 34.84 seconds. Despite eclipsing the previous record of 35.29 seconds, set by Choi in the same venue in November last year, Lee finished third in the event after Japan`s Hiroyasu Shimiz (34.67 seconds) and Casey FitzRandolph of the U.S. (34.84).

Lee also shaved over a quarter of a second off his record time in the 1,000-meter race, clocking in at 1:08.75 to finish fourth in the event. His record-setting time yesterday was 1:09.11, which was 0.02 second faster than Choi`s previous record time.
