North Korea is open to negotiations with the international community on its missile program, the German daily Neues Deutschland reported Thursday.

The newspaper was quoting remarks by the floor leader of the Germany's Democratic Socialist Party (Partei des Demokratischen Sozialismus (PDS)), who visited Pyongyang as the head of a German government delegation early this month.

The PDS floor leader said that if the North abandons its missile exports, which is its only means of earning foreign exchange, it would naturally demand due compensation in return.

In connection with hopes for the unification of the Korean peninsula, the German party leader noted that North Korea supports a confederation between South and North Korea, a formula that would amount to coexistence of the two nations.
