Business leaders seek political cooperation

Heads of the nation¡¯s five major economic organizations, including Kim Kak-Choong, chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, Park Yong-Sung, chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Kim Jae-Chul, chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, visited Grand National Party president Lee Hoi-Chang and United Liberal Democrats acting president Kim Chong-Hoh on Tuesday and exchanged New Year¡¯s greetings.

The business leaders requested political support in boosting corporate activities after the law permitting a multiple labor union system is passed.

The business leaders expressed concerns that the revision of the Labor Standard Law, which stipulates guarantee of job security in corporate mergers and acquisitions, could dampen business performance.

¡°I feel sorry about the political circle, which does not fulfill its role despite the current economic difficulties,¡± GNP leader Lee said. ¡°The GNP, as the opposition party, will make endeavors to tide over the economic hardship and create favorable conditions for businesses.¡±
