North Korea said Saturday that as this year, the closing year of the 20th century, saw the outlook for Korean reunification brighten, the declaration made at the inter-Korean summit meeting on Jun. 15 ought to be thoroughly implemented under "the three principles of the unification of the fatherland."

The inter-Korean statement proclaimed the self-reliance of the nation and called on it to combine its total energies to herald a new age of independent national history, said Radio Pyongyang, North Korea's official mouthpiece.

It said the two sides had charted a path toward future unification of the fatherland on the basis of reconciliation and unity of the people on both sides of the Demilitarized Zone.
