A storm is brewing over the growing number of university applicants using phony foreign school certificates to gain entrance to local colleges.

According to the Ministry of Education and domestic universities, four students have already had their admissions nullified or been forced to withdraw.

Additional cases have cropped up at Korea University (two students), Yonsei University (two students) and Dongguk University (one student).

The number of wrongful admissions now reaches as many as nine, three at Korea, three at Yonsei and one each at Ewha Womans, Dongguk and Hongik universities. The Ministry of Education may amend the overseas residents special admissions scheme based on an investigation of the recent cases.
