U.S. President Bill Clinton will meet Korean President Kim Dae-Jung in Brunei Nov. 15 to discuss issues surrounding their bilateral relations and the ongoing detente on the Korean peninsula, the White House revealed Thursday.
White House national security advisor Sandy Berger said that on the first day of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, Clinton will meet Kim following his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the security aide, the Kim-Clinton talks will center on tension reduction in the Korean peninsula, which is a matter of mutual concern for Washington, Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing and Pyongyang.
President Clinton will then leave for Vietnam, marking the first visit of a U.S. president to the Communist country since the end of the Vietnam War. Clinton will not travel on to North Korea after Vietnam, White House economic assistant Jean Sperling said.
