Korea's rising star in archery, Yun Mi-jin, shot the Korea's first gold medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Yun grabbed the gold medal in the women's individual archery event by beating her senior Kim Nam-soon by 107-106.

Yun's teammates Kim Nam-soon garnered the silver and the returning Kim Soo-nyung took the bronze as Korea swept the individual archery medals in 12 years after the 1998 Seoul Olympics.

The archery medals lifted Korea to 11th place in the medal standings with one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Kim Soo-nyung, double gold medalist in the individual and team events in the Seoul Olympics, added a bronze to bag a record five medals (three golds, one silver and one bronze) in three Olympics.

The women's archery individual event was an ``all Korea party'' with three South Koreans - Yun Mi-jin, Kim Nam-sun and Kim Soo-nyung - and a North Korean, Choe Ok-sil monopolized the semifinal berths.

Yun met Kim Soo-nyung in a semifinal, but displayed a composed shooting to beat the former Olympic champion by 107-105.

The Korean archeresses who swept the individual event will bid for another gold in the team competition for the third consecutive time on Thursday.
