President Kim to meet North¡¯s assembly chairman

President Kim Dae-Jung will meet Kim Yong-Nam, chairman of the North Korea¡¯s, Supreme People¡¯s Assembly Standing committee for a talk when he arrives at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York to attend the UN Millennium Summit.

President Kim and chairman Kim are expected to propose for solving problems related to separated families at it¡¯s origin by confirming whether separated families are still alive and by allowing them to exchange letters.

The two will also agree to proliferate the economic cooperation between the south and the north as of the expected ground breaking ceremony for the restoration of Gyeongui Line, by signing the investment guarantee agreement at the minister-level talks to be held in the future, opening accounts, avoiding double taxation and setting up other systematic devices.

Moreover, the two are expected to praise each other¡¯s attempt for the reconciliation after the summit-level talks, such as reuniting separated families, returning non-converts and stopping anti-campaigning at each other, and agree to further work for the reconciliation and cooperation.

President Kim will emphasize that the economic cooperation and the alleviation of the tension in the Korean peninsula should go side by side and further emphasize the need to hold a meeting of the military authorities.

Moreover, President Kim will emphasize the need to broaden social and cultural exchanges for the recovery of racial homogeneity.
