Samsung takes aim at world tech market

Samsung Electronics has announced that it is aiming to become one of the world`s top three companies in the field of digital media.

The company held `Samsung Electronics digital festival`, with its domestic clients and other customers participating. Company officials said Samsung will work hard to emerge as one of the top three digital media firms in the world, based on its home network products.

A Samsung official said that the company would realize annual sales of 20 trillion won in 2003 and 30 trillion won in 2005 by strengthening its design and brand identity. Samsung¡¯s success is based on leading-edge technologies in semiconductors, cellular phones and thin film transistor-liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCD).

The official also predicted that Samsung would secure world class competitiveness in the field of home networking, on the basis of digital TV, digital video disk and home server products. By doing so, Samsung aims at securing more than a 15% share in the global market in seven product areas, including digital TV and DVD.

Samsung Electronics plans to expand sales of digital products to 60% of its total product sales by 2003 and 90% in 2005, shifting its product line from analog to digital items.

The company is expected to release new products this coming fall such as PDP TV, multi-function MP3 players, and ultra-slim notebook PCs. Samsung plans to commingle technologies in the fields of semiconductor, telecommunications, computer and consumer electronics.
