One person went missing and many isolated campers had to be rescued after torrential rains hit the southern part of the nation on August 3- 4.

The heavy rainfall also inundated a total of 900 hectares of farmland in South Kyongsang and South Cholla provinces.

Police said that a resident of Kosong-kun, South Kyongsang Province, identified as Yu Song-Yong, was swept away by swift currents on a road in front of a reservoir at about 6.20 a.m. August 4, and has not yet been found.

Yu was traveling to his house near the reservoir with three relatives in a truck driven by his father, which could not proceed further due to the flood. He got out of the truck alone and was walking along the road when he was swept away by rapid currents, according to the police.

The torrential rain also flooded some 600ha of rice fields in Sachon, Chinju and other regions in South Kyongsang Province, as well as 300ha of paddies in the South Cholla region.

An 119 rescue team saved 11 members of a family, including Kim Hae-Ju, 44, of Pusan, who were trapped while camping in Ochi Valley in Ochi-ri, Chinsang-myon, Kwangyang City, South Cholla Province, due to rising water levels at about 7:20 a.m. on August 4, police said.
