Record exports for big 3 Elec. makers

Owing to the robust semiconductors market, the top 3 domestic electronics companies, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and Hyundai Electronics Industries, recorded the highest ever semi-annual export performance at US$ 17.3 billion. By company, Samsung posted exports of US$ 9.8 billion with LG and Hyundai following at US$ 4.1 billion and US$ 3.4 billion, respectively. For the first half of 2000, the big 3 accounted for more than 20% of total exports, which were US$ 82.9 billion.

Samsung saw a 42% boost in exports from the US$ 6.9 billion of the same period last year. When translated to Korean won, the amount is 10.8 trillion won and this accounts for more than 50% of its total revenues for the first half(16.5 trillion won).

LG also experienced a 30% rise in exports from US$ 4.1 billion last year and this was also a record for LG. LG revealed that the boost in exports was attributed to the increased exports of flat screen displays and other digital products. In Won, LG¡¯s exports amounted to 4.6 trillion won, accounting for 67% of its total revenues, which stood at 6.8 trillion won.

Hyundai posted the most formidable rise among the Big 3, recording a 135% increase from US$ 15.3 billion. Exports(3.8 trillion won) accounted for 84% of total revenues at 4.5 trillion won.
