Korea is the world’s third largest buyer of U.S. weapons behind Israel and Saudi Arabia, the Pentagon’s annual report said yesterday.

Last year, Korea bought 790 million U.S. dollars worth of U.S. arms, including two Aegis destroyers (300 million dollars) that can simultaneously attack several targets.

Korea in 2007 had bought 590 million dollars worth of U.S. weapons.

The country also had the world’s highest increase in weapons bought from the U.S. last year and rose two notches from fifth place among buyers of U.S. arms.

Israel was the largest importer with 1.35 billion dollars and Saudi Arabia second with 808 million dollars.
