The U.N. Security Council yesterday abruptly canceled a meeting on North Korea`s rocket launch.

U.N. sources said five permanent Security Council member countries and Japan have failed to narrow differences over adopting a binding resolution or chairman’s statement containing a warning against the North.

Pak Tok Hun, the North’s deputy permanent representative to the world body, told reporters that Pyongyang will respond to the Security Council’s actions with necessary and strong measures.

Pak said Pyongyang launched a satellite, thus it did not violate a U.N. resolution.
