Tiger Woods (U.S.) is off to a flying start in his bid for a sixth consecutive PGA stroke-play title.

On September 29, tying his this season’s record with an eight-under-par 63 in 18 holes, Woods took the solo lead with a stunning closing eagle, six birdies, and no bogeys in the first round of the WGC American Express Championship at The Grove (par 71) near London.

Padraig Harrington (Ireland) and Ian Poulter (England) resumed in joint second place-and they trailed Woods by a shot.

Though his crushing defeat in the Ryder Cup played between Europe and the U.S. teams, the world number one was back to the form he showed in his previous plays, and succeeded a 79 percent of fairway shots and an 83 percent of green shots. The first round ended with 27 putts. The Korean golfer, Choi Kyeong-ju (Nike Golf), ranked in the joint 47th place (one-over-par 72).

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson (U.S.) has said he wants to have more family time and did not attend the game.
