On October 29, President Roh Moo-hyun said, “We should all overcome the kind of egoism that only brings destruction. Instead, we should develop wise egoism that will help everyone to live better off.”

During the national conference on the self-managed fisheries management program held at Keumho Marina Resort in Tongyoung, President Roh said, “The struggles in the 1980s helped the nation by bringing about democracy. However, the struggles in the 1990s are held only for selfish interests, and the struggles for interests are becoming burdens to the national development. Although struggling for interests is a natural right, if the interests are not coordinated properly, they will only bring destruction to everyone.”

After the conference, President Roh attended the ceremony for the completion of the quay at the Gwangyang port, and said, “Up until 2020, 1.3 billion won will be invested towards the development plans of the Gwangyang Bay region. Five hundred ninety thousand pyong of land near the quay will be designated as a free trade zone. Exceptional privileges such as tax deduction and free leases of the building site will be given to the zone.”
