“To facilitate the resolution of the North Korean sanctions issue, North Korea should take bolder and practical denuclearization measures,” said South Korean President Moon Jae-in on the U.S.-North Korea denuclearization talks. “I believe Chairman Kim Jong Un’s visit to South Korea would proceed more smoothly after a second round of U.S.-North Korea summit takes place,” he said on the North Korean leader’s planned visit to South Korea.

In a New Year’s press conference held for 118 minutes Thursday at the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae, President Moon said, “As the first round of the U.S.-North Korea summit involved agreement on a conceptual basis, the second round of talks will likely to focus on more concrete actions for a more clarified consensus.” “The scrapping of ICBM, IRBM, missile productions lines and the dismantling of other nuclear facilities will be matched with U.S. actions," he added. "As trust forms, it would lead to denuclearization process by the North disclosing nuclear facilities.” President Moon also revealed that he sent a reply to the North Korean leader's December letter.

“There have been long-standing hostility, distrust and broken promises, and many tend to view Kim’s denuclearization plans to be different from the CVID approach adopted by the U.S.,” explained President Moon. "Chairman Kim has clearly reiterated that the denuclearization approach is no different from what the international community’s expectations."
