A truck driver who hit a physically challenged person on the motorbike to death was sentenced 3 years in prison.

On Thursday, Judge Seo Bo-min of Seoul West District Prosecutors` Office revealed that the driver surnamed Cho (aged 56) was sentenced three years in charges of the hit-and-run accident that killed the motorbike driver (violation against the Additional Punishment Law on Specific Crimes).

The police and the court said that in April this year, Cho hit the motorbike of the disabled man surnamed Yoo (aged 64) while he was driving his dump truck on the three-way intersection near Nokbeon station, Seoul. Even though Yoo fell down, Cho drove on him without stopping. The victim who used to deliver orchid to support his disabled wife and children died on the spot.

Arrested after leaving the accident scene, Cho said that he didn’t run away on purpose, contending, “I didn’t see Yoo’s scooter.” The court, however, ruled that he fled without making proper response after he hit the victim, sentencing him three years in prison.
