First live broadcast of a Supreme Court trial

A trial at the grand courtroom of the Supreme Court in Seoul is aired live on TV and the Internet for the first time Thursday. A public argument is arranged to verify if a Vietnamese woman committed abduction of her child to outside the country. She claimed to have been neglected by her Korean husband and left for Vietnam with their 13-month-old baby.

The court broadcast live the process of the trial in a case that would draw national interest on the state-run policy channel and the Web search portal Naver. Supreme Court Chief Justice Yang Seung-tae said, “Opening the entire process of a trial is also part of measures to strengthen the public trust (in the judicial system.)” Broadcast equipment for the live coverage is seen behind the audience.
